Job Description: ACCOMPANIST

Supervised by: Artistic Director

Purpose of Position: To provide piano accompaniment for chorus rehearsals and concerts

Time Commitment: Weekly 2-hour rehearsals take place from late August through April with breaks for certain holidays; other time commitments include a semesterly choir retreat, dress rehearsal, and concert; Music is selected and prepared by Artistic Director - personal practice/preparation time will vary by performer 

Location: Christ Church Easton, 111 S Harrison St., Easton, Maryland, 21601

Compensation: $9,000 per year

In addition: Easton Choral Arts is providing free Air BNB lodging on Tuesday nights or whenever needed during performance week to anyone traveling from a distance to our rehearsals and performances. 

Chorus Mission: The Mission of the Easton Choral Arts Society is to promote appreciation of fine choral singing, encourage excellence in vocal performance, further musical education, and provide personal opportunities for artistic expression.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

The Accompanist of the Easton Choral Arts Society is responsible for the following duties:

  • Accompany all Chorus rehearsals.
    • Provide piano accompaniment for all rehearsals, including:
    • Tuesday evening rehearsals from 7:00-9:00 pm (On average 28-30 per year)
    • 2 Saturday morning choir retreats per year
    • 1 Dress rehearsal per concert

  • Accompany Chorus performances.
    • Annual Holiday Concert (2 performances)
    • Annual Spring Concert (2 performances)

  • Meetings and communication
    • Meet as needed with the Artistic Director
  • Provide other assistance as requested and agreed upon. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in music and/or significant accompanying experience. Strong keyboard skills. Ability to prepare, prior to rehearsal, piano accompaniments and choral scores. Ability to play a wide range of music and musical styles. Ability to confidently run a choral sectional during a regular rehearsal preferred but not required.
